As Carers come to terms with the changes brought about by their caring responsibilities, they develop different coping strategies and begin to make adjustments for the sake of their loved ones (children, parents, husband/wife, friends, relations and so on). They recognise the need to modify their own dreams and ambitions, and in some cases give them up completely. Christian Life Coaching at OAK is for Carers who want:
- To walk with God in their journey
- Fulfilment at whatever point they are at in their journey
- To achieve a goal, aim for something… no matter what it is (old or new dreams, ambitions etc)
- Purposeful life and success for themselves without feeling guilty!
- To develop a habit or break one
Words are generally inadequate to describe the different emotions experienced when parents learn about their children’s disabilities. It is quite common to use words like denial, disbelief, anger, grief, anxiety, guilt, fear, pain, hopelessness just to mention a few.
It could be comforting to know that God is mindful of us at this stage and He is willing to walk with us through each step along the way; even when we wonder:
- “WHY ME?”
- “Why do I have to walk this path at all?”
Acknowledging and aligning our feelings with God’s words from the beginning of our journeys could be the most important decision we choose to make as we navigate this most often uncharted territory with our children.
I believe this is one of the things God is saying to Carers:
“O you afflicted one, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay your stones with colourful gems, and lay your foundations with sapphires. I will make your pinnacles of rubies, your gates of crystals, and all your walls of precious stones” Isaiah 54:11-12 (NKJV)
